Odd Lawnmowers I have Known

Just a collection of photos of oddball lawnmowers I've worked on
Here's a link to my lawnmower repair page

Honda HRX217 - When I'm a millionaire, I'm going to get me one of these!  This is the nicest mower I have ever walked behind!

I said I'd never fix another Lawn Boy, but what can I say?

Honda HRS21 - the first UPSIDE DOWN engine I've ever seen.  Seems like the flywheel and suction fan are under the deck, and it pulls in air from the top.  Wedge shaped gas tank is removed in this picture.

This owner obviously thought his Techumseh Vector engine was a hotrod - or maybe just a sentance to hell.

ANOTHER big Techumseh engine with a hole in the block!  It didn't even last long enough to wear the $319 pricetag off the cap!

Another Jacobsen, these are really nice little mowers though I've yet to see one with the original Jacobsen two stroke.

This MTD edger - even though it was "Easy Spin" had points.  It also had a side bar that made it impossible to remove the side cover without removing the engine!

I could have told them that making the front wheel support out of PLASTIC wasn't a good idea!

Gave a mower to a buddy, and after a while he tried to fix it.  Since the float didn't just drop out when he took off the float bowl, he decided to pry it out with a screw driver.  Don't know WHAT he was trying to do to the sparkplug!
Look here!

Sitting outside so long that it was sprouting.  Replaced the airfilter (one of the ones below), put in gas,  and it started right up.

Airfilter, airfilter airfilter!  Drew a double today.

2stroke EZ-GO golfcart engine

Yazoo  - Master Mower S24 - 5hp - side view

Homelite HT-17 hedge trimmer

"I just TOUCHED the fire hydrant with the mower!"  But it managed to dent in the valve cover and BENT the exhaust valve on this OHC Honda!

Ryobi Mulchinator  - BMM 2400 - a 24V battery mower, complete with built in charger, 18"

Another Mulchinator - this one says TURF INJECTOR  Turf injector?  It's a LAWNMOWER!!

Lawn-Boy 7259 - OMC built 1969, styled like an outboard, 21"

Lawn-Boy 8400 - OMC built 1980, commercial, 21" odd carb

Lawn-Boy R8035AE  - another OMC mower, 1986.  This one is a real Cadillac with electric start with a battery and generator system

Sears Tecumseh with a LOCKING recoil starter system

"POWER GEAR DRIVEN" - Murry's idea of gear drive is different than mine.

Sometimes it's a world of  UGLY LAWNMOWERS, old B&S engines do run nice, though!

Lawn-Boy Supreme 8157 - blade clutch, multiplate drive clutch, aluminum deck, and "push to go" handle makes this puppy really supreme!

Nicely done BUTCHER JOB on this old Toro deck

This Two Stroke Snapper was ridden hard and put away wet, VERY wet Very often.

I don't think B&D has the foggiest idea how to build an (electric) lawnmower.  Maybe the cheesy impeller type exhaust fan OVER THE BLADE (with only one vane left) made the engine heat up and bust the stator magnets to bits?

I hadn't seen a flat head Honda before.  This one was on a V-deck Snapper

"So I shot it with my Shotgun"  This mower wouldn't run reliably for the previous owner, so he finally took the shotgun to it.  The MTD deck didn't mind, but the gas tank looked like lace.  MAYBE it wouldn't run right because it had the wrong flywheel key, or maybe because the needle valve seat was in backwards, but it REALLY needed a new tank!

1960 "King O' Lawn" edger:  The King (notice the wingnuts) and Engine detail

Ever wonder what a $900 lawnmower would look like?  Commercial Snapper with a cast deck, but the styling is Toro or maybe even MTD?

This is the third new 5 HP Tecumseh I've seen with a hole in the crankcase.  Obviously no cylinder sleeve either - just the piston running on aluminum.

Classic Eager1 two forward speeds and neutral!  Obviously a Toro.

John Deere, looks like a cross between a Toro and a Lawn-Boy.  SOUNDS like a DEERE, though!

Jacobsen Jake-Rabbit  I'd never seen one of THESE before!

I didn't know that FORD made lawnmowers!  They sure did get some help from their Product Safety Engineers - FIVE warning tags!

Granny must have owned this one.

Lawn Boy with a B&S engine? Looks original - special mounting plate and colors.

Snapper Mulcherizer attachment on an old Robbin engine.

Homelite Yardvark!  har, har, har!

Tiller - Western Auto Wizard by Ariens - 1971?  Listen to it PURRRRRRRRR

Shimano 3 speed bicycle hub style transmission on a late 80's MW.

Junk is junk:
I wonder how smooth this guy cut with the blade on upside down
Or the last time this guy changed his air filter? Or this poor Lawn-Boy's filter - "It just stopped for no reason!"
A bailing wire retred
Much of the dirt fell out of the carb when I took it off.  The engine wasn't two years old, and had thrown a rod.
IT STOPPED, for NO REASON!

No offense meant to the oddball Lawn-Boy owners  ;-]
