1984 Raleigh USA Grand Prix

I bought this bike on Craig's List from a mover who was given it by the folks he was moving.
It did take a lot of cleaning up.
I remember when these were very popular - they sure are BEAUTIFUL!

Lots of chrome!  The "Raleigh 555sl" tube is thought to be Tange.
These bikes were built by Merida for Raleigh USA, with was licensed at the time by Huffman Manufacturing (Huffy) in the US.
HUFFY?
Yup, read this: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/%7Ehadland/neago.html

Build quality of the frame is great, though I think it is a little too stiff.

Only major changes in the bike are replacing the Shimano Light Action shifting with Shimano 600, a SR Royal crank, and a modern set of wheels with a nine speed casette.
Still using friction shifting though!
Notice that all the lugs carry the Raleigh name.
